Forks/La Push WA Trip

We went to Forks and La Push WA this year again for a week. This time we went by ourselves except for the last two days Grandma and Grandpa Gentry came. Don Gentry has a 50th year high school reunion in Forks this year. We had a ton of fun staying in a cabin, playing at First Beach, hiking to Second Beach, visiting the Hoh Rainforest, hiking around Lake Crescent, Rialto Beach, visiting Neah Bay and hiking to the most NW point of the 48 states. We also ate delicious food at Sully's Burgers and Pacific Pizza and Melissa made wonderful meals. We had lots of beach fires with hot dogs and s'mores and shot off fireworks. It was great seeing Aunt Edna and Uncle Johnny. We had a lot of fun but missed having a Gentry reunion. Come on Gentry's let's get together for next year!

Hahn/Paul wedding

In the middle of June we went down to California for Carrie and Zacks wedding at the Oakland Temple. It was great seeing the whole Hahn family and we had a blast! We didn't take a lot of pictures so here are the best ones. It was great being able to swim in Grandpa's pool! We got to stay in a great hotel (thanks Grandma & Grandpa Hahn) and we got to rent a really cool 2011 Ford Taurus. Sometimes we wonder why we don't live in California, it's awesome!

Boise trip & Eva's Birthday

Toward the end of May we were able to visit Andrea's family in Boise, just in time for Eva's 5th birthday. It was fun seeing you guys and your cool town and home!

Pre-School Graduation

Alta loved her pre-school and her teacher. For one of her last days she had a bike ride. She is really excited to be starting kindergarten!

Seattle Trip

In April we took a trip to Seattle. We visited the Woodland Zoo, the Seattle Aquarium and the Museum of Flight. A family tradition is to find the best doughnuts, and the winners go to Krispy Kreme and Top Pot Doughnuts.

We traveled back to the late 1920's and had a wonderful time trying to find out who killed Al Capone. We each had fun parts to play. Ryan was a gambling man and Melissa was a reporter. Fun times!

Palouse Falls

Since we've lived here for 5 years and hadn't visited Palouse Falls yet, we took a little trip to see if it was worth it. Its pretty but I think the kids enjoyed it more than us.

Adams County Fair

The annual Adams County Fair was a blast. The kids loved the rides and the animals. There's just something about eating cotton candy and being in that atmosphere.

Alta's Preschool

Alta started preschool in early September. She loves it! She goes three times a week. It is hard to believe that she'll be in school next year.

Lake Tahoe 2010

We had a great time in Lake Tahoe. Thanks Mom and Dad Hahn for everything. Jonah had his 2nd birthday while we were there and he loved all the attention. We love this place and wish we lived closer.

Over the Memorial Day weekend we traveled to Forks Washington to visit Grandpa Gentry's sister. We were able to go to several beaches, visit Grandpa's original home, the Forks Timber Museum and of course all the Twilight sites.

On February 9th Alta turned 4. She had a great Birthday. It was celebrated over a few days. She had fun with her cousins as well as a little party with some friends. She also had a primary activity on her birthday. Thanks to Cynthia for making an amazing princess crown cake and thank you to the Strongs for taking us out for pizza. Thanks to everyone for the gifts, money, cards, and comments. We really appreciate you making Altas day great!

Family First!

All growing up I was always taught that family comes first. Family comes before friends and WORK. I still believe this today, that we must defend each family member in any situation. In the end family is all we have. Today all I have is my family.

Elder Rex D. Pinegar said in a talk entitled "Home First":
In his book The Power of the Family, Dr. Paul Pearsall declares there is a “power of loving energy that flows within every family circle,” Dr. Pearsall expresses the opinion that families aren’t failing, but we are failing the family because we have not learned how to put family life first in our world.

Well it has been a long seven months spent remodeling our house. We did all of the work except installing the carpet. A special thank you to Don & Susan Gentry, Kathy Harris, Gary Strong and Nathan Beus for helping. New paint inside & out, all new windows and doors, new trim board, tile, refinished hardwood, new carpet, new roof (installed before we bought) new lighting and a whole new kitchen (cabinets were already in place). There is still a few minor touchups but there always is. Next on our list is landscaping! Note to those who are considering remodeling, IT'S TOUGH!

Ryan Hahn, graphic designer for the Othello Independent, received four awards for the newspaper Friday night at the awards banquet of the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association. The awards were as follows: first place in the Best Single ‘Convey an Image’ Ad category for 2008 Rodeo ad; second place in Best Use of One Spot Color and Black Ad for the 2008 Stephen Beus ad; second place in Best Multiple-Advertiser Ad - One or Two Full Pages for 2008 Homecoming ad; and third place in Best Youth-Oriented Content Ad for the 2008 National FFA Week ad.

Jonah's 1st Birthday

Jonah Ryan Hahn had his first birthday yesterday. He had chili for dinner and a birthday cupcake. Presents included: dinosaurs, cars, little people farm and a 4 wheeler (JK) that present will come latter. Jonah is a special little guy that has awesome hair and will have a bright future. Hahn family reunion, West Point, CA

The Hahn reunion took place in West Point California. It took 15 hours to get there. We stayed in a beautiful cabin owned by a family friend. We road ATV's, swung and swam. It was great seeing everyone. We then traveled to Livermore and had fun swimming in Grandma & Grandpa's pool.

We had an awesome Gentry reunion over the 4th of July weekend in Forks and La Push Washington. We stayed in a nice hotel on the beach in La Push (Indian reservation). We played on the beach, went to the rain forest, shot fireworks on the beach, saw a parade, had great food and swam at cousin Jimmy's. We saw a spectacular fireworks show on the beach that lasted for hours. It was great seeing everyone including the vampires and werewolfs...

Update on the House

It has been awhile since we've last posted because we have been busy with remodeling our house. The inside is done and we moved in a couple of week's ago. Here are just a few photos of the process and the end. We will put more on of the kitchen and other rooms later. The windows are huge and were a pain to put in. Melissa did a great job on the hardwood floors.

Our Valentine's Day consisted of Ryan making breakfast and Melissa sending Ryan and Alta on a treasure hunt. We then went to Tri-Cities to Wendy's and then to Columbia Park by the Columbia River. Alta loves the park because it has a huge playground that looks like a castle. Ryan thought it would be cool to reflect on life in the middle of a pond. We have always been curious of this beautiful white house by the river called Moore's Mansion, so we decided to check it out.

Alta had a great third birthday. We had a Mickey/Minnie Mouse party for her on Sunday evening. She wanted hot dogs for dinner. She had a lot of fun with her cousins. Jonah is 6 months old. Doesn't time fly by. He is getting big (chunky monkey). He loves to suck on his toes and is starting to get up on his knees. He is rolling all over the place (Rollie pollie) and loves to laugh and scream like a girl.

Christmas & California

We had a blast in California and a great Christmas. One of the presents was a new camera, hence all the pictures. We had a tough travel to and from Portland but we made it. After 26 years Ryan needed to get glasses. He couldn't see the signs while driving. Thanks to all for the cards, presents and emails. They were much appreciated, especially the flights and the glasses.

We had a nice thanksgiving over at Grandma & Grandpa Gentry's. Alta loved watching the Macy's parade, especially when Santa came on. We have much to be thankful for.

S.W.A.T.

On Tuesday I was able to go to a training for the S.W.A.T. team in Moses Lake with the Elders. Let me just say...IT WAS AWESOME! The night went as followed: Watching the S.W.A.T. team do weapon training. We then got to shoot a semi-automatic gun I think it was an M4. As you can see on my target the middle shots around the 10 was mostly the semi while the head shots was my favorite the m1911 pistol. Then some of the guys got to drive the S.W.A.T. tank while I watched a sniper shoot 250 yards in pitch dark with night vision. We then went to one of the middle schools and did different scenarios. There were 7 of us and usually two of us taking turns would be the bad guys with guns while the others were hostages. In each scenario they would enter the room, take the bad guys out and shield the hostages. It was such an intense sight to see each time. The guns that they had and we had were loaded with a chalk tip. The one time that I was the bad guy I fired two shots as the S.W.A.T. team entered the room (I missed) they shot my hand up and my paintball mask. All I have to say is it was fun, they deserve a lot of credit for what they do but I wouldn't want to have to make quick decisions like they do.

For Sale, Peace, Sleep & Stare

For those of you who don't know...our house is FOR SALE. It's actually been on the market since the beginning of September. Hopefully the lady that wants to buy our house sells hers soon. It will be sad to leave it because we put a lot into it. I think we will always be looking for the next fixer upper because we like making the house our own. Plus we are not picky and we can see potential where others can't. Infact many people were against us buying our current house (too small...etc.) Well after we get our equity check we'll be laughing all the way to the bank!

Happy birthday to Melissa! We went to see the new Tinker Bell movie at the theaters for free with Alta. It was the first time for her and she had a wonderful time. After the movie she was able to name some of the characters. Melissa got treated to lunch by her Mom and sister and I took her to Moses Lake for Chinese.

Last week as we were eating dinner with my parents the topic of my old home came up, the one that I spent 16 years of my life in. I told them that I had recently had a dream where I had bought the house. The day after the dream I drew out the floor plan and began telling Melissa all about it. Now my quick drawing does not give the house justice but I loved this house. Ever since talking about it with my parents I have thought about why that house was so special. Was it the cool green carpet, the snake pattern in one of the showers, the pool, the large trees...etc Then I came to the conclusion that the house was so cool because it was home. The house itself is just material and the learning, feelings and memories of home are what made that place the best. No matter where you live, home is where your family is. By the way Melissa thinks this is cheezy.

Jonah's Blessing

We had a fun weekend. We are thankful for Grandma & Grandpa Hahn for coming such a long way. Thank you for such a wonderful time. Jonah was surrounded by 9 family members including: Ron Hahn, Don Gentry, Brian Gentry, Mike Gentry, Warren Small, Steven Harris, Nathan Beus, Paul Risenmay & Bishop Martin. After the sacrament meeting we had a luncheon. Thank you to all who provided the food, it was a big success.

Even in Othello Washington you can find some cool things to take pictures of, you just have to look a little harder. The gas station picture was used for the Othello Independents feature photo for last weeks edition. The tree is in Mike and Claire Gentry's backyard. The little irrigation waterfall is in the corner of Don and Susan's yard. Tonight Alta had fun running up and down the irrigation ditch with her cousins.

Jonah was circumcised today! Melissa was in the room with me and I watched because I was constantly putting the pacifier in his mouth as he cried. Other than that he has been doing great! Melissa continues to get more strength and Alta continues to be a 2 year old.

Jonah has been doing great! As you can see he has a little cut on his face, which he got during the c-section. Melissa is getting up more and we had a good first night home. Thanks for all the visits, calls, emails and gifts.

After 28 hours of not having any progression with the baby coming, Melissa had to have a c-section. Jonah Ryan Hahn was born at 4:36 p.m. on August 6, 2008. We are excited to have him safe and healthy but sad that Melissa won't be moving around much for the next few weeks. Alta is warming up to her new brother. He weighs 7.7 lbs and is 20.25 inches long. Melissa will be coming home sometime on Friday.

About a month ago Melissa was putting Alta in her car seat, set the keys on the center console and then shut the door. The car was locked! None of the windows were open and we don't have a spare key. She then called me and I came mad because it would cost us $45 for a locksmith. We told Alta that she needed to get out of her car seat (she has done this a few times). She got out and then we told her to pick up the keys and press the button. She did! Thanks Alta for saving herself and us $45. She was so proud of herself. "I helped you daddy" was the comment for the rest of the day.

1. I asked Ryan out on our first date on the same day that we met. I also kissed him on the cheek on the first date too!

2. I played tennis in high school. My Junior year my partner and I placed at State. We were the first girls to go to State in tennis from our high school since the 70's.

3. I always thought that I would have twins. My grandma Gentry was a twin, my grandma Beus had twin sisters. I have heard that it skips a generation. Also when I was teenager my sister Julie did the "pencil test" and it said I was having twin boys. So maybe someday I will be the mother of twins.

4. I was a big tomboy, like my other sisters. I promised myself that I would never wear makeup. That lasted until I was about 16. I called makeup, "war paint" and I thought why would people want to wear makeup and make themselves look different? I guess my mom telling us girls that we were "naturally beautiful" sank in. Now I know that makeup is an enhancement!

5. I love doing laundry! I do laundry almost daily, but I HATE doing dishes. At least we always have clean clothes.

6. I am scared of water. I never really used to be, but since having a baby I have really become scared of it. I have always had a fear of drowning.

Alta had here second birthday yesterday. The day started off with here eating cake batter with Melissa. She later had a party with her cousins that included: ring around the rosie, duck duck goose, and London Bridge is falling down. This tired old motorcycle has been sitting in the weeds by my brother-in-laws house for as long as we've been here in Othello. We have walked by it many times and finally one day I decided to take a picture.

Alta loves snow

Here are a few photos from Halloween. Alta was Minnie Mouse. Ryan was a fat person and I was richard simmons. But, luckily we don't have a picture of us on our camera. The crazy pirate is my dad and the flapper girl is my sister Andrea and the chicken is her daughter Eva.
